2-Mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) has a slightly foul odor and bitter taste but is non-poisonous. It is easily soluble in ethyl acetone, acetone, a dilute solution of sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate, and also soluble in ethyl alcohol. MBT is not readily soluble in benzene and is insoluble in water and gasoline. This hemi-ultra accelerant is widely used for vulcanizing natural and synthetic rubbers. Its main applications are for producing rubber tires, belts, shoes, and other technical rubber goods.

2-Mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) should be packed in tightly sealed bags or containers. The product must be kept in dry and cool places, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
