2-Mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) has a slightly foul odor and bitter taste but is non-poisonous. MBT is not readily soluble in benzene and is insoluble in water and gasoline. This hemi-ultra accelerant is widely used for vulcanizing natural and synthetic rubbers. Its main applications are for producing rubber tires, belts, shoes, and other technical rubber goods.
