Carbohydrazide

TL;DR Carbohydrazide is an organic compound that can be used as a de-oxidant in boilers and other industrial applications.

Carbohydrazide — Carbohydrazide is a volatile, hydrazine-free oxygen scavenger and metal passivator for medium- and high-pressure boiler feedwater that removes dissolved oxygen and passivates metal surfaces without adding dissolved solids.

Compare Carbohydrazide with the treatment objective and operating conditions of your water or process system. Include the industry, water characteristics, current treatment, target, required quantity, packaging and destination in your enquiry so the relevant available grades can be identified and quoted.

Carbohydrazide

Properties:

Carbohydrazide has several applications in many industries. As a fuel, it produces immense amounts of heat when burned and is thus used as an ingredient for jet and rocket fuel. For the prevention of corrosion damage in water boiler feed systems and heating systems, carbohydrazide serves as an oxygen scavenger.

It also finds use as a reducing agent for recovering precious metals, as a polymerization catalyst and chain extender in urethane coatings, and as an auxiliary in the photographic industry.

Additional uses include its utilization as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals, stabilizers, water treatment chemicals, and agrochemicals such as dyes or flame retardants. In recent years hydrazine has been applied to LCDs (Liquid Crystal Displays) to produce faster thin-film transistors.

Carbohydrazide Usage:

Carbohydrazide is often used as a de-oxidant in boilers and should be put into water or used in its water solution with a dosage of 0.5mol or more per 1mol of oxygen for best results. The ideal temperature range for this reaction is 87.8-176.7°C (190.04-350.06°F). When reacted with oxygen, the resulting substances are nitrogen, water, and carbon dioxide.

Package and storage:

Carbohydrazide should be stored and packaged in tightly sealed containers, away from direct sunlight and any sources of heat or humidity. To ensure safe handling and long shelf life, the container should be stored at temperatures lower than 25°C (77°F) and kept dry.25 kg/bag, 25 kg/fiber drum, customers’ requirements—storage for one year in a dark room and dry place.

Synonyms:

Hydrazine, 1,3-Diaminourea; Carbonic Dihydrazide

Faqs about Carbohydrazide:

What is Carbohydrazide?
Carbohydrazide is a white, crystalline solid that is used as a corrosion inhibitor, oxygen scavenger, and boiler water treatment chemical. It is also used in the manufacture of dyes, explosives, and other chemicals.

What are the health effects of Carbohydrazide?
Exposure to Carbohydrazide can irritate the eyes, skin, and respiratory system. Inhalation of high concentrations of Carbohydrazide can cause coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Ingestion of Carbohydrazide can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

How can I reduce my exposure to Carbohydrazide?
If you work with Carbohydrazide, wear protective clothing such as gloves and a face mask to avoid contact with the chemical. If you are exposed to Carbohydrazide, immediately remove your clothing and wash your skin with soap and water. If you have been exposed to high concentrations of Carbohydrazide, seek medical attention immediately.

What should I do if I think I have been exposed to Carbohydrazide?
If you think you have been exposed to Carbohydrazide, remove your clothing and wash your skin with soap and water. If you have been exposed to high concentrations of Carbohydrazide, seek medical attention immediately.

Carbohydrazide — Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is Carbohydrazide used for?

Carbohydrazide is a volatile, hydrazine-free oxygen scavenger and metal passivator for medium- and high-pressure boiler feedwater that removes dissolved oxygen and passivates metal surfaces without adding dissolved solids.

What is the recommended dosage of Carbohydrazide?

Carbohydrazide is typically dosed at ≈1.4× the dissolved-oxygen load. The exact dose depends on water quality, temperature and the overall treatment program — VCYCLETECH provides a tailored dosing recommendation.

What is the difference between Carbohydrazide and DEHA?

Carbohydrazide reacts faster and is preferred for higher-pressure boilers and cold feedwater, while DEHA is a lower-cost volatile scavenger for low- and medium-pressure boilers; both are hydrazine-free and add no solids.
