PBTC Antiscalant for Cooling Towers — Why It Tolerates Chlorine
PBTC is a scale and corrosion inhibitor that stays effective at high temperature and in chlorinated cooling water, where ordinary phosphonates degrade. It gives excellent calcium-carbonate inhibition at low dose and protects against corrosion.
Why PBTC for cooling towers
Cooling towers dosed with chlorine or other oxidizing biocides break down many phosphonates. PBTC resists oxidation, so it holds scale and corrosion control in high-chlorine, high-temperature loops.
Dosing
Typically 5–15 ppm as product, often blended with HPAA and copolymer dispersants. See the full cooling water treatment program.
Frequently asked questions
Why is PBTC used in cooling water?
Because it tolerates high temperature and chlorine, keeping scale and corrosion control where ordinary phosphonates degrade.
What is the difference between PBTC and HEDP?
Both resist chlorine, but PBTC has the best oxidant stability and combined scale+corrosion performance for cooling towers.
