What Is HEDP? Uses, Dosage & Properties
TL;DR HEDP is a phosphonate used in water-treatment formulations for scale and corrosion control. To decide whether it belongs in a cooling-water or other program, start with the water analysis, metallurgy, temperature, concentration cycles and oxidant regime. Compare the proposed grade's active basis and compatibility with existing chemicals, then define scale and corrosion results for a controlled trial. Its product identity alone cannot set a plant dose or guarantee oxidant tolerance. Ask for the exact grade's current TDS and SDS before planning feed and monitoring.
Properties
HEDP chelates calcium, iron, copper and other metal ions, prevents CaCO₃ scale by threshold inhibition, and stays stable in oxidizing and high-temperature conditions better than many phosphonates.

Match HEDP to the water and operating conditions
- Cooling-water scale and corrosion control: choose a trial feed from the actual water analysis, cycles and inhibitor blend.
- Low-pressure boiler water and metal cleaning/passivation.
- Detergent builder and chelant in textile/peroxide bleaching.

VCYCLETECH supplies HEDP and its sodium salts in bulk.

Frequently asked questions
What is HEDP used for?
As a scale and corrosion inhibitor in cooling water and boilers, a chelating agent for metal ions, and a stabilizer in peroxide bleaching.
What is the dosage of HEDP?
Set the feed from the water analysis, active-content basis, cycles, temperature, oxidant exposure and the target scale/corrosion trend. Compare candidate conditions in a controlled trial and monitor the plant response; a generic ppm number is not a grade-specific operating instruction.
